Aluminum that is 99% pure or higher is called pure aluminum. Primary aluminium, the metal produced in an electrolysis furnace, contains a series of “impurities”. Siiski, in general, only iron and silicon elements exceed 0.01%.
For foils larger than 0.030 mm (30µm), the most common aluminum alloy is en aw-1050: pure aluminium foil with at least 99.5% aluminium. (Aluminum larger than 0.300mm is usually called aluminum strip or aluminum plate.).
Aluminium foil is usually pure aluminum (99–99.9% aluminum content). The so-called pre-rolled strip is approx. Aluminum foil with a thickness of 0.6–1.5 mm is cold rolled to the desired thickness in several rolling steps (passes).
When producing very thin foils, two layers are rolled. This has two different surfaces (glossy and matt). The reason is that the outer surface is in contact with the polishing machine and thus becomes relatively smooth (glossy). In contrast, the inner surface is slightly rough due to free-forming, so due to strong forming, the aluminum hardens during rolling, which means that the aluminum becomes more and more the harder. Subsequent soft annealing makes it soft and flexible again.
